OFFICE BUILDING F&I

An office building next to Maastricht Airport landing strip

OFFICE BUILDING F&I

BEEK, 1998

An accounting firm and an internet company wanted an outstanding, 2000m2, modern office building on a site close to the highway, separated from the runway of Maastricht Aachen airport by only a three meter high chain link fence. The lack of building mass and airport height limitations made it impossible to achieve height. To improve identity and visibility, Maxwan decided to lift the building 3 meters above ground level. The building oversees the runway panoramically without any obstruction. A big patio in the centre of the building allows every desk to be positioned next to a window - creating pleasant working conditions with ample daylight and view. Cars cross underneath the building and park facing the runway, invisible from the street. The two firms occupying the building both have their own 'wing' and are connected by a 'bridge' that contains the entrance and a shared canteen that can be converted into a large meeting room equipped with state-of the art presentation facilities. This office building was selected as on of the best Dutch designs in the 2003 Yearbook for Dutch Architecture.
Selected as one of best buildings in Holland, 2001 (Jaarboek voor Architectuur 2001)
