The scheme for the Duxton Plain Public Housing in Singapore consists of a family of five towers, connected at their base by means of a grand communal lobby. Lifting the grouped parking facilities creates the roof of the grand lobby, a larger semi-public space, connecting the elevator waiting areas of all five towers with communal programs. The Lobby also provides space for the required as well as the additional activities (small exhibitions, performances, activities for children) and a reserve for future programs. We have deliberately chosen an aesthetically modest approach. The strength of the design lies in the ensemble of the buildings as a well balanced and precisely arranged group. To create difference in similarity, each of the towers has been topped by an individual 'crown'. Each of the crowns provides an opportunity for a special space or program (festivity or banquet hall, swimming pool or fitness space, community gatherings, sky-garden etc.)
