ALBERTKANAAL

ANTWERP, 2007

The city of Antwerp desires to connect both sides of the Albertcanal with a series of 5 bridges. This is a unique opportunity to create 'a Family of Bridges': The bridges are not only each by itself a functional, spatial and esthetic improvement, but also as an entity on an urban scale. We achieve this by proposing pylon-type bridges - the pylons add visual markers along the canal to the city's skyline. In the immediate context the park-ramps curve up to the gracefully slender bridges. Antwerp will feature a new series of high quality public space and landmarks plus greatly improved connenctivity.
